Open Season

Found on Feministing: Open Season is a 15 minute video about the prevalence of sexual assault committed against Native women.

According to stats from The Kinsey Institute 14.8% of U.S. women report being raped in their lifetime and another 2.8% report attempted rape in their lifetime. According to this mini-doc, 34.1% (more then twice the national average) of Native women will be raped in their life time.

Oh, and for the record, “we’re always coming over here – next time we come, you’re both going to jail” is a totally unacceptable response from law enforcement, regardless of how many times they are called because of spousal abuse or rape. That simply further victimizes the victim and puts her at risk of greater danger from her spouse because she may be hesitant to call police the next time.
