Jack Layton (NDP leader) died today. It’s big news in part because he’s a major political leader in Canada, but also because a lot of people liked him regardless of whether or not they supported his political views or party. He wrote a letter to us last week. It’s mostly politically based, but still lovely. His closing paragraph is beautiful:
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.
Condolences to his loved ones. He was a good person, he fought hard to lead his party to where it is now, and his voice will be missed.
