I sort of finished the sampler a few weeks ago, except that I had decided to replace the pretty pale orange with a vibrant orange. I’m a big fan of rich, vibrant colours, and I decided that it was worth the effort.
First, a quick reminder that this is the “26 Stitches” sampler from The Drawn Thread. This is what their version looks like. This is the original thread pack I used (from Dragonflylotus Designs Handspun Threads), except that I request a pale blue to replace the pink and eventually decided to replace Carrot with Sunlit Burnt Orange.
After working on another project, I pulled out the piece and started un-stitching all the pale orange while guffawing to Dara O’Briain (a hilarious Irish comedian).
Un-stitching is a pain in the butt. It’s also a little stressful – I’m always worried that I’ll accidentally snip the linen. So, I like to take my time and have good lighting.
After the un-stitching, the re-doing part seemed ridiculously easy. And, I’m so happy with the final piece. Sure, some of the stitched aren’t perfect and some of the instructions weren’t very good, so I have one stitch (the Norwich stitch) where one block is craptacular, but then I found better directions and the second block is perfect. I’d considered re-doing the bad one, but I don’t mind leaving it as a reminder the be suspicious of instructions that don’t look quite right.
Here’s the final piece. It’s the biggest (by far!) cross stitch piece I’ve ever even started. I love it. I have no idea what I’m going to do with it yet (probably a wall hanging, like what I did with “Meh”), but I love it and can’t wait to do another big piece.
