Sew Advent 2014 SAL week 1

I’m participating in the 2014 Sew Advent SAL (stitch-along) hosted by Dragonflylotus Designs Handspun Threads, using the band sampler from iStitch.  For more information, visit Liz’s blog. See my intro post about this project here.

Sooooooooo. Yeah. I need darker fabric.

I need darker fabric for this project!

This week we have a band of the letters A to F and two divider bands. The top one is done with my new favourite stitch, the Long Arm Cross Stitch and the second is done with the 4-sided stitch.

I'm not convinced about the fabric colour, but this stitch is gorgeous #longarmcrossstitch #crossstitch #SewAdvent2014 #SAL

So far, I love everything about the project, except my fabric. I really need something darker. I’m also tempted to go with blue, because blue is awesome. But, I’ll probably stick with a nice brown. I just feel that it would be much nicer if you could see the stitches a little better, so I need a little more contrast.

Your stitches look great! I agree about the fabric, but as you’ll see on my version later today, I love high contrast :-)

What count linen are you using, 40?

    • I believe it is 35/36 because 40 still scares me as I haven’t yet invested in a good magnifier or light. It looked pretty good with the threads against the fabric, so I thought it would be ok.

I like medium to high contrast, but clearly need to try higher-than-I-think contrast from now on. If I remember you instagram sneak peak, then I know I want something between what I have now and what you have. I’m going to check at my local store this weekend, and if I can’t find anything, I may come whining to you :)
