Reading update, July 2015

I like to read and I’ve challenged myself to read at least 50 books this year (that’s a lot for a slow reader). This is how I’ve been keeping myself accountable and how I’ve been keeping track of what I’ve read. I update at the beginning of each month (you can find them under the “Books” category).

I’VE HARDLY READ AT ALL THIS MONTH!

Actually, that’s only somewhat true. I read quite a few magazines (catching up on some Uppercase reading). Other than that, I’ve only finished a children’s picture book. It was brilliant and delightful, but it’s a children’s picture book, ha ha.

Ah well, it is summer and I knew I wouldn’t get as much reading done over the summer.

1. The Princess and the Pony

I wish I’d had this book when I was a kid. I’m pretty sure it would have become a favourite because it’s a delightful and amusing story with fun illustration. Bonus points: It’s written and illustrated by the fabulous Kate Beaton of Hark a Vagrant.

In progress:

I almost finished Locavore, which is a fantastic Canadian book about farming with a focus on eating local. It’s very interesting. I expected it to preach the virtues of eating local, but it’s so much more than that. Yes, the author does clearly support eating local as much as possible, but she also talks a lot about the good and the bad of current farming practices (economics, etc.), how farmers have little respect, the issue of cities expanding onto fertile land, the history of farming (especially in Canada and North America), etc.

I’m still working on Silently and Very Fast. It’s starting to get interestingly mythological.

I’m still reading Travel Light. I still haven’t finished the last bit of this book.

I’ve hardly read any of Intuitive Eating, but I’m still planning to read it for interest’s sake.
